Privacy Matters, Our Commitment to Protecting Your Data

At RCI Continuing Education Center ("RCI," "we," "us," or "our"), accessible via ce.rci.edu, we are committed to safeguarding the privacy and security of our students and site visitors. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you browse our website, register an account, or enroll in our Continuing Education Unit (CEU) courses.

1. Information We Collect

We collect information necessary to deliver educational coursework, verify state licensing compliance, and administer your account:

Contact & Account Information: Full name, email address, phone number, mailing and billing address, username, and password credentials.

Professional Licensing Information: Professional license or certification numbers (e.g., CPT, CLS, MLT, RN, or LVN license numbers), license renewal cycles, and issuing boards or agencies required to issue accredited CEU credit.

Course Progress & Academic Records: Enrolled courses, video/module completion timestamps, quiz and exam scores, passing status, course evaluation feedback, and issued certificates of completion.

Billing Information: Payment transaction details. (All payment processing is handled through PCI-compliant third-party payment gateways; RCI does not store full credit or debit card numbers on its servers).

Technical & Usage Information: IP address, browser type, device information, operating system, and log data concerning how you interact with our Learning Management System (LMS).

Cookies: Session and functional cookies essential for keeping you logged in, maintaining cart contents, and recording course progression.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your data for legitimate educational, operational, and regulatory purposes:

Course Delivery & Credentialing: To provide access to course materials, verify course completion criteria, track required instructional hours, and issue official continuing education certificates.

Regulatory Compliance & Board Reporting: To maintain verifiable continuing education records and, where applicable or mandated, report course completion rosters to state licensing boards and regulatory bodies.

Account Administration & Support: To manage student accounts, process tuition payments, handle password resets, and provide technical and customer support.

Integrity & Security: To protect against unauthorized account sharing, detect fraudulent activity, and ensure compliance with academic integrity standards.

Communications: To send administrative confirmations, course completion notifications, and expiration alerts. With your consent, we may send announcements regarding new courses or license renewal updates (you can opt out at any time).

3. Disclosure of Your Information

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. We disclose information only under the following conditions:

Regulatory & Accrediting Bodies: When required by continuing education accreditation standards, state licensing authorities (such as the California Department of Public Health or relevant professional licensing boards) may access course completion rosters and licensing verification records during audits or mandated compliance reporting.

Authorized Service Providers: Trusted third-party vendors who provide technical infrastructure (such as website hosting, LMS software maintenance, email delivery, and payment processing). These partners operate under strict confidentiality agreements.

Legal & Safety Compliance: When required by subpoena, court order, or applicable law, or when necessary to protect the rights, property, and safety of RCI, our students, or others.

4. Data Retention & Mandatory Recordkeeping

We retain your personal information and student records for as long as your account remains active. Please note that under California continuing education provider guidelines and regulatory board mandates, RCI is legally required to retain student completion records, CEU credit logs, and examination verification for a mandatory minimum retention period (typically 4 to 5 years) to satisfy regulatory and licensing audits.

5. Your Privacy Rights & Choices

Depending on applicable state and federal laws, you have rights regarding your personal information:

Review & Update: You can view and update your personal and contact details directly within your student dashboard.

Data Requests & Deletion: You may request access to or deletion of your personal account information by contacting us. However, mandated educational records, continuing education verification transcripts, and financial transaction archives will be retained in accordance with statutory record retention requirements.

Marketing Opt-Out: You can unsubscribe from non-essential promotional emails at any time by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link found at the bottom of our emails.

6. California Privacy Disclosures (CCPA/CPRA & CalOPPA)

No Sale or Sharing of Data: RCI does not sell your personal information, nor do we share your personal information with third parties for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Browser "Do Not Track" (DNT): Our website does not currently alter its data collection practices upon receiving automated "Do Not Track" signals from web browsers.

7. Data Security

We implement appropriate physical, technical, and administrative safeguards—including SSL/TLS encryption, firewall protections, and restricted administrative database access—to protect your personal data. While we take commercially reasonable measures to protect your information, no internet transmission or electronic storage method can guarantee complete security.
