Chemical Hygiene and Spill Management in the Clinical Laboratory is a 1-CE course designed for laboratory professionals. The course provides an overview of infection control principles applicable to phlebotomy, specimen collection, specimen processing, laboratory testing, and routine laboratory activities. Learners will review standard precautions, routes of occupational exposure, hand hygiene, appropriate selection and use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe specimen handling, sharps safety, environmental cleaning and disinfection, and strategies for preventing contamination and exposure.
Through examples, knowledge checks, and exposure scenarios, participants will learn how to anticipate hazards and apply appropriate controls before, during, and after laboratory procedures. Upon completion, learners should be better prepared to incorporate consistent infection control practices into daily laboratory workflows and help protect themselves, patients, coworkers, specimens, and the laboratory environment.
